The Judy Stinson Lecture is an annual event featuring a legal scholar hosted by ASU Law. The lecture series is named after Judy Stinson, who retired in 2020 after teaching legal writing for 27 years.
This year’s guest lecturer was Sarah Ricks, Distinguished Clinical Professor of Law at Rutgers Law School, delivering a lecture titled, “Suppressing Constitutional Law: Qualified Immunity and Non-precedential Opinions.” The lecture addresses how courts use “non-precedential” (or unpublished) labels on judicial opinions to shield government officials from liability, making it increasingly difficult to develop new constitutional law.
